Nowadays we have more than a dozen games being released on a monthly level, all of which have superb graphics and acceptable physics and game mechanics system. But there is one thing that most of these games lack. It’s depth in storyline, the ability to draw players with its beautiful design, and nonlinear campaign. Before fancy graphics came to be, most of the games that became successful introduced their fans to its franchise step by step, sequel by sequel, until they had a large enough player base to call themselves successful.
The excitement that never ends
Square Enix published the third action adventure game of the Tomb Rider series. Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be released on September 14, 2018, and fans of this familiar franchise all already excited. Will it earn the title of the Best Tomb Raider game of all series? Well, we can say for sure, but judging from the audience they’ve accumulated with the last sequel chances are that it will be a success. The game is made for well-known platforms Microsoft Windows, Play Station 4 and Xbox One so it’s up to you how will you start your new adventure. Either way Shadow of the Tomb Raider will definitely enrich your gaming experience.
Through the game you can will be able to enjoy complying various side quests and missions that will help you to learn all about a hidden city of Paititi, and learn how to become a better player perfecting Lara’s skills in the process. Our favorite female protagonist now has new and better skills that make stealth an important part in the game. She can hunt animals, hold breath longer underwater, slide down the cliff using rope, craft materials and much more. In the Shadow of the Tomb Raider, you can customize your play style through combat, puzzles and investigations and adapt to get the best gameplay experience. Because there is always an option for an alternative approach, players can now use almost everything including their surround, tools and gadgets, weapons as well as enemies themselves to overcome difficult challenges.
In the previous series, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Lara spends the most of time in numbing cold Syberia, trying to find lost ancient artifact in the forgotten city of Kitezh.
The fighting skills that she uses to defeat or disrupt the Trinity military organization felt almost natural to the player, and that’s exactly what we can expect from her in this title. There is a large diversity of weapons in her inventory, like shotguns, pistols and rifles with different firing mods. Lara can also use bows and arrows to take out larger groups of enemies with ease, or create some kind of diversion and draw the enemy attention from her when things get rough. Despite the name of the game, there is not many tombs exploring lately it might seem that the game developers have wandered from the original ideas and exchanged them for popular ones consisting of running and gunning. Does that mean that Shadow of the Tomb Raider be like any other adventure game? Well, we shall find out soon.
If you are a large fan of Tomb Raider game series, this new upcoming third series must come to your wallpaper collection. There are many websites with free downloadable Rise of the Tomb Raider wallpaper content where you can take your favorite one and put on your desktop, tablet or mobile and enjoy even more in Croft’s famous adventures. I any case we can say that the previous wallpaper design with Lara on the main picture hunting bear or aiming in distance in cold harsh Siberia in the background gives you more chills then sunset in the hidden city of Paititi. But don’t be fooled with the exotic name for a cute city. Paititi holds many dangers, some of which are even considered supernatural. By the look of it you can assume what you can expect from the new part of the game, but again, the new title holds many surprises and challenges for a common gamer.
How different will it be from previous sequels?
Is Rise of the Tomb Raider open world game? Well, it’s more similar to the previous Tomb Raider series. Not really open world like Arkham, Far Cry, GTA or other games. Yes, you can move through secret maps of reasonable size that are a combination of small research areas and limited fields. Maps are arranged and feel like sequences so you will have to go throw them one by one as you will make progress in the campaign. The world is big enough but not too big. You can ignore side quests and missions and follow the main story but all the side missions are also highly rewarding, as well as most of the tombs and crypts. It’s up to you to decide which way you’re going to take in the game and how you will expand your gaming skills.
The importance of voice casting
You probably remember Camilla Luddington, a British actress from well-known TV shows like True Blood where she played Claudette Crane full-blooded telepathic faerie or in Gray’s Anatomy as Dr. Jo Wilson. Despite of her acting skills in movies and TV shows she became also famous as a voice actor in a popular video game Tomb Rider since 2013 as Lara Croft. Rise of the Tomb Raider voice actors gave a lot of effort to make the game itself feel great.
Camilla Luddington voiced Lara at a Los Angeles studio for over a two-year period and the most challenging part in voicing was having to yell over the horrible screams of wind and snow. As you already know the whole story of the mentioned game, Lara’s former stepmother Ana in Rise of the Tomb Raider has been given voice by also famous actress Kay Bess where she got her biggest video game role. You also remember Lara’s father Lord Croft who may not appear much in the game, but Michael Maloney’s voice still plays an outstanding role in letters and Lara’s memories. Still, they all made a great effort to make the game more addictive and playable for many generations and revive the story of Craft family.
Any similar games?
There aren’t many games like Tomb Raider franchise that offer extraordinary adventures with the same scale of popularity. Tomb Raider is one of the classic games with series starting back from 1996 when the first game was released for Sega Saturn, PlayStation and MS-DOS. In that period the game received excellent critics as one of the greatest games that has been ever made.
In 2013 after a long period of time, the series got a reboot under the same title as Tomb Raider Anniversary with a high success where Lara Croft had her first adventure.
Many old and new fans of Tomb Raider franchise are trying to find similar games for their PC, Play Station and Xbox. Games in which you must utilize surviving skills, stealth, and a variety of weapons aren’t hard to find. Games like Tomb Raider can provide a similar adventure hunting experience and this way you can pass the time until Shadow of Tomb Raider is released.
Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain
For an example there is Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain which is first sequel of the franchise with open world elements. The game has a solid storyline where Big Boss is falling into a deep coma and wakes up after 9 years to assassin who is trying to kill him. Players can test their sneaking skills and try to stay undetected from the enemy while exploring the whole landscape.
Far Cry Primal
Far Cry Primal will take you on an adventure in the past era at the start of a Mesolithic period where you can take a role as a hunter in a world filled with wildlife from BC. Survival skills in this franchise are tested all the time and threats to lose life are everywhere. You will try to get eliminated by wild animals like lions, saber-toothed tiger, bears also you will become a pray even to some tribes. Your skills will become better during gameplay when you become ranked as a tribe leader where you can train animals.
Batman Arkham Origins
Batman: Arkham Origins offers a free roam, open-world adventure in the notorious city known for its alarming crime rate and one of the most badass Marvel superheroes. This is also one of the first games with online multiplayer mode that was added to the Batman universe. In this part of the game, you can play as a younger Batman, who has a threat on his head, set by the most powerful crime lord of the Gotham City-Black Mask. Gameplay isn’t much different from the other series with the ability to access the game from combat or stealth angle based on your preferences.
The above-mentioned adventure games are top rated titles so they are in rank with Tomb Raider. Of course there are other quality open world games that you might find appealing until the SOTR is finally released. These include Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, God of War, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and many other.
Any additional content to Rise of the Tomb Raider that you can play?
Rise of the Tomb Raider New Game Plus does not exist. When you finish the game you can still explore the world and get all the supply shack items, which is neat because you can upgrade your gear, buy new equipment and open areas of the map that you missed in the first gameplay. There is Chapter Reply Elite that you can play again some parts of the game with everything you have unlocked so far. It’s not some kind of bonus chapter but it still allows you to maybe correct some decisions and make some better moves but this time with all items that you unlocked before and in that way you can make your experience richer.
There is a DLC titled Cold Darkness in which you encounter, you’ve guessed it, zombies. Of course that zombies don’t belong in the Tomb Raider franchise, but developers found a way to make it into a reality. Apparently in Rise of Tomb Raider: Cold Darkness you’re investigating an abandoned factory that has some of its previous inhabitants infected with radiation. This radiation somehow made them into zombies that are set to destroy you. But luckily you’ll have every weapon in your arsenal to dispose of them and thus complete your quest. We won’t spoil the actual storyline of this DLC but we will say that it’s surprisingly fun to play.
Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch
This just might be the most interesting DLC for Rise of the Tomb Raider. The notorious and illustrious Baba Yaga is by far the most interesting character and the story following this whole adventure will send the chills even to most hardcore gamers. In this fine addition to the main game you’re investigating a bizarre area in which you start to hallucinate, see walking houses and a figure that is utterly terrifying. After the hallucinations stop, Lara realizes that she’s been inhaling toxic fungus fumes that cause terrible hallucinations.
She quickly develops a cure for it and decides to venture once again into the forbidden area. There you’ll find that the entire area from your vision/hallucination has changed but still resembles your terrible dream. Instead of flying houses, there is a decrypt house filled with puzzles. These puzzles are challenges that you must resolve in order to pass into the next area.
They are indeed flawlessly designed and will challenge even the most demanding puzzle-solving gamers.
With only a couple of months until the release of the latest title of Tomb Raider franchise, we loyal fans can only sit and wait or we can play our favorite prequels in hope of passing the time.
